Robotics Software Engineer, Platform
Engineering · Remote · Unpaid · Research collaboration
Own core infrastructure: package distribution, CLI tooling, CI, dataset loaders, and integrations that turn Phukon research into products other teams can adopt and run in production.
This is not a paid role. You will work on active research with the core team, gain hands-on exposure to real embodied AI systems, and can earn co-authorship on papers published under your name for substantive contributions.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the Praxis Python package: API design, Pydantic schemas, pip install paths, and developer documentation.
- Build CI pipelines, regression tests, and release automation for frameworks and benchmarks.
- Implement adapters for robot platforms and simulators without locking the stack to a single vendor.
- Profile and optimize validation pipelines — analytical checks must stay fast enough for interactive use.
- Support external contributors: issue triage, code review, and extension guidelines.
- Contribute to research write-ups, experiment reports, and publications; co-authorship for meaningful technical work.
Qualifications
- Any relevant engineering background — software, robotics, computer, electrical, mechanical, or allied fields.
- Comfort building and shipping code; Python experience is a plus but not required if you can ramp quickly.
- Interest in robotics, embodied AI, open-source tooling, or research-grade systems.
- Pragmatic judgment and willingness to learn: we care more about how you think than a specific degree or years count.
- Genuine interest in research collaboration: real exposure and co-authorship on published work, not a paid role at this stage.
